Chemistry companies in Ohio directly employ 43,650 people, and indirectly contribute 131,400 jobs to the economy. For every chemistry industry job in Ohio, an additional 2.9 jobs are created within the state. The industry also generates an additional 59,170 jobs in plastics and rubber products.
The average wage of a chemistry industry employee in Ohio is $80,620, which is 39% higher than the average manufacturing wage. These jobs generate $3.5 billion in earnings and generates over $1.3 billion in federal, state and local taxes.
Every year, Ohio’s chemistry companies invest $1.1 billion to build and update equipment and facilities.
Exports of high-tech, high value-added chemistries from Ohio chemistry production plants exceed $6.5 billion annually—a substantial contributor to our country’s balance of trade.
